Prevocational Services Overview
In this program, individuals learn traditional skills necessary for community employment. Participants attend classes to increase skills and are paid for their work providing assembly and packaging services to local businesses. Once the necessary skills have been acquired, the individual is transitioned to seek integrated employment with the assistance of counselors from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and an Employment Coordination agency.
Pre-Vocational Training is conducted at the Commerce Square facility in Aurora near Peoria and I-70. We have been providing this service since July 1, 2012.
In the Pre-Vocational setting, primary emphasis is placed on learning the skills that will not only help the individual find a job, but will help them to keep it for as long as possible. While paid production work is provided at the site, the “soft skills” training that occurs daily is the most important part of the day. Staff lead a discussion each day that is connected to a weekly theme. The discussion group is similar to a staff meeting with participation expected of all who are present. Skills discussed during the training are then transferred to the work floor both by the individuals in the program and the staff leading the discussions. Review of discussion topics is held weekly with an occasional review of all weekly topics. This allows for a refresher of subjects covered and helps to reinforce the importance of the skills being reviewed.
The Pre-Vocational Program at Continuum of Colorado is committed to providing excellence in customer service through a successful partnership with local businesses.
